Trace Moody finished with 22 points and four steals to lead the Gardiner boys basketball team to a 72-43 win over Freeport on Monday in Gardiner. 

Brady Peacock added 14 points, and Brayden Elliott had seven steals and seven assists for Gardiner (2-0). The Tigers pulled away by outscoring the Falcons 47-18 over the second and third quarters. 

Drew Pound scored 17 points and Mason Vintinner had 13 for Freeport (0-2). 

MT. BLUE 47, LEWISTON 40: Evan Drake’s 19 points helped the Cougars improve to 2-0 with a victory over the Blue Devils (1-1) in Farmington.

Drake made four field goals in the first half, then went 11 for 12 at the free-throw line in the second half. Cam Norton added 11 points and Oliver Cormier had 10 for Mt. Blue.

Grayson Bernard topped Lewiston with 18 points, including 16 after halftime. Camden Bernard finished with 12 points.

WINTHROP 62, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 52: Graham Huri scored 21 points to lift the Ramblers (1-1) over the Falcons (0-2) in Winthrop. 

Jake Galusha added 18 points. 

Blake Small finished with 17 points for Mountain Valley.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 67, MADISON 22: Lily Bellerose scored 18 points, and the Phoenix (2-0) beat the Bulldogs (0-2) in Madison. 

Jaelyn Rich scored eight points for Madison.

MARANACOOK 48, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 29: Celia Bergdahl recorded 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Black Bears (2-0) over the Mustangs (1-1) in Readfield.

Jackie Clark added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Alice Ferran had nine points and seven rebounds.

Kaitlyn Frost scored 14 points for Monmouth.

LEWISTON 73, MT. BLUE 20: The Blue Devils (1-1) were paced by 25 points from Bailey Tardif-Mockler as they cruised past the Cougars (0-2) in Lewiston.

Syhniya Jackson added 16 points and Emma Madore had 14.

Reese Nye scored eight points to lead Mt. Blue.

GIRLS HOCKEY

WINSLOW CO-OP 2, PENOBSCOT 1: Josie Kelly scored in overtime to lift Winslow/Gardiner/Cony/Lawrence/Messalonskee/Maranacook/Erskine Academy (2-2-1) over the Pioneers at the Thomas College Ice Vault in Hallowell.

Kelly also set up Kayleigh Turner’s third-period goal.

Isabelle Brideau gave Penobscot a 1-0 lead earlier in the third.

Emma Jean stopped 15 shots in the win, while Penobscot’s Abbie Derosier made 31 saves.
