Before we fulminate against MAGA, remember that Bill Clinton was Trump-lite, then recall how shamelessly Democrats circled the wagons around this reckless philanderer who practically wrote his own kompromat.

Clinton, like Trump, misused his office to solicit favors, often of a sexual variety. Clinton, like Trump, parlayed his power and influence into shady financial deals. Democrats then, like MAGA today, chose to look the other way rather than police their own, preferring to stonewall and ridicule their rightfully outraged critics.

Our problems today are exactly what we should expect from a country with an utterly unprincipled political system. Neither Democrats nor Republicans have shown a willingness to elevate country over party, or even God over party. They’ll stoop to any depravity to cling to power. As the late PJ O’Rourke put it, we’ve chosen a parliament of whores to govern us. “We shouldn’t wonder that collectively we’ve gotten the clap.”
