Enjoy the Maine Celebration of Lights from the comfort of your own car. You’ll make your way through more than a mile of roadway lit with over a million colorful LED lights. With animated scenes, a 300-foot multicolored tunnel and displays that are up to 50 feet tall, you’ll be transfixed the entire time. Reservations are recommended for this holiday ride to remember. Sweeten the experience with hot chocolate, fried dough, s’mores and fried Oreos, which must be ordered in advance.

Magic of Christmas

Tickets are flying faster than Santa’s reindeer for Portland Symphony Orchestra’s annual Magic of Christmas show. You’ll be treated to the sensational vocal stylings of “American Idol” alum Julia Gagnon. The shows also include the Magic of Christmas Chorus, PSO Children’s Chorus and municipal organist James Kennerley. With classic carols, modern favorites and some holiday laughs, it’s no wonder these are red-hot tickets.
Pink Talking Fish

Watch out, you might get what you’re after! The Pink Talking Fish show sure checks a lot of boxes if you’re a fan of three iconic bands. Their sound is a fusion of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish. Any way you slice it, you’ll be mesmerized all night long. But that’s not all. Opening the show is Radiohead and Phish tribute act Weird Phishes, who put their crunchy, jam-band stamp on songs by both acts.
Hanukkah Mexicana

Hola Hanukkah! Head to the Chocolate Church Arts Center in Bath for the Hanukkah Mexicana celebration. The evening includes a mariachi performance by Veronica Robles and her all-female band. You’ll also hear klezmer music by Casco Bay Tummlers, and a combination of both acts under the name Kleziachi. The event also features readings by Ilan Stevens and Margaret Boyle, authors of “Sabor Judio: The Jewish Mexican Cookbook.” Mexican-Jewish foods inspired by the book will be available, and you can try your luck at hitting a dreidel piñata.

‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

Elevate your run-up to Christmas with the glorious 1946 Frank Capra film “It’s a Wonderful Life” on the big screen. George Bailey, played to perfection by James Stewart, falls into despair on Christmas Eve. He is saved from a suicidal bridge jump by his guardian angel, Clarence. What unfolds in the town of Bedford Falls, New York, is as heartwarming as it gets. With a cast that includes Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore, you’ll leave the theater fully believing that every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.
Vigorous Tenderness: A Winter Solstice Concert

Celebrate the winter solstice by heading to the Maine Maritime Museum for the immersive, outdoor chamber music performance of Vigorous Tenderness. You’ll follow a path around the grounds of the museum and hear music composed by Che Buford, Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, Daijana Wallace and others. More than a dozen Maine musicians will be playing, including Devin Del Campo, Kal Sugatski, Katherine Liccardo, Jazmin DeRice and Fred Edelen. Vigorous Tenderness is a wondrous way to experience live music. Bundle up and bring flashlights and headlamps.
‘A Very Nutty Nutcracker’

Portland Ballet is getting silly with a comedic version of “The Nutcracker.” Every scene will crack you up, and audience members are encouraged to wear festive sweaters and attire. The troupe is also performing “A Victorian Nutcracker” at the Westbrook PAC at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets for those shows are $46-$56 at porttix.com.
