I want to express my sincere appreciation for Sen. Susan Collins’ leadership in securing $38 million in federal home heating assistance for Maine families in need. As temperatures drop and energy costs continue to rise, this support is essential for seniors, low-income households and the many Mainers who rely on LIHEAP to keep their homes safe and warm each winter.

Sen. Collins led a bipartisan request urging the Department of Health and Human Services to release these long-delayed funds, ensuring that more than $38 million will go directly to Maine. Her work as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee to increase LIHEAP funding in the FY 2026 budget further demonstrates her commitment to addressing the real challenges Mainers are facing.

With heating costs expected to climb again this year, LIHEAP funding will make an immediate and meaningful difference for families who are too often forced to choose between paying for heat and covering other basic necessities.

Sen. Collins’ bipartisan approach and her consistent responsiveness to Maine’s needs continue to make a real impact for people across our state.
