Shortly after the first Varsity Maine boys basketball poll of 2025-26 was released, unranked Sanford defeated No. 1 Windham 68-60 — a result that was a catalyst for upheaval in this week’s rankings.

The Spartans jumped into the poll at No. 5 and are one of four teams to receive a first-place vote, while Windham fell to fourth. South Portland moved from second to first, Camden Hills from fourth to second, and Scarborough from 10th to third. Cony and Bonny Eagle didn’t falter last week, but both fell one spot in the poll.

There were 17 teams that received votes, and only South Portland, Camden Hills and Windham appeared in all nine voters’ rankings.

The Varsity Maine boys basketball poll is based on games played before Dec. 16, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
