For the second week in a row, Cheverus is No. 1 and Mt. Ararat is No. 2 in the Varsity Maine girls basketball poll. But don’t take that as a sign of consensus among voters.

Eighteen teams received votes this week. The Stags, the Eagles and No. 6 Lawrence are the only three to appear in all nine voters’ rankings. Cheverus was picked No. 1 or 2 by all nine, but Mt. Ararat’s rankings varied from first to sixth, and Lawrence’s from third to ninth. The eight voters who voted for third-place Gorham ranked the Rams between second and eighth. No. 5 South Portland received three second-place votes but was left out of three voters’ rankings.

This week’s poll has three new teams: Edward Little, Camden Hills and Gray-New Gloucester.

The Varsity Maine girls basketball poll is based on games played before Dec. 16, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
