Robert Deforest Truman

PITTSTON – Robert Deforest Truman, 93, of Parker Road died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, from complications with cancer.

He was born in Bridgton, on Jan. 17, 1932, the son of Erva and Sherlock Truman. His family lived on Main Street in South Paris for a short time before moving to Pittston.

Robert attended Pittston and Gardiner schools through eighth grade. He began working at the age of 14 and was a Goodyear Stitcher in the Gardiner shoe industry for more than 30 years. He married Doris M. Truman at the age of 19 and the two remained together for more than 50 years. Robert was an avid bowler, and in later years enjoyed playing bingo and spending time at the family camp on Cobbossee Lake.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Marie (Mansir) Truman, his son Daniel Deforest Truman, his brothers Everett, Howard and Albert, and sisters Bertha, Marion, and Elsie.

He is survived by his son, Richard E. Truman of Augusta and his daughter, Jacqueline M. Gove and husband Lawrence W., Jr. of Pittston; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and three step great-grandchildren.

There will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. Interment at the Riverside Cemetery will be in the spring. Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall at directcremationofmaine.com.
