“Irish need not apply.” My parents told me about this sign that was common in shop windows advertising for help in the 1930s.
It seems we have made no progress since then. Our president shamefully called out our Somali neighbors in a truly disgusting manner earlier this month. History will condemn him for that. I have Somali chosen family in my life who I love dearly. My heart bleeds for them to be the target of the president’s toxic rhetoric and I pray for their safety in our divided country.
My family has been fighting for our country since the American Revolution. This toxic behavior is not what we have been fighting for over 250 years.
