An Augusta man was arrested Tuesday and charged with arson, as part of an investigation into a a fire at a home on Lilac Lane in November.

Trevor Shorette, 32, is being held at the Kennebec County jail on $10,000 cash bail; he also has been charged with violating two sets of bail conditions.

In a news release issued Tuesday, Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Shorette’s arrest is the second made following the Nov. 15 fire.

Shortly after 5 a.m. that day, the report of a fire at 16 Lilac Lane, just off Riverside Drive on Augusta’s east side, drew the Augusta fire and police departments. Moss said the residents of the mobile home had been awakened by a neighbor. The fire was quickly put out.

Because of circumstances at the property in the Serenity Gardens Mobile Home Park, Augusta police contacted the Office of State Fire Marshal for help.

On the scene, investigators determined the fire had been set intentionally.

Three days later, investigators arrested Samuel Howard, 27, of Pittson, and charged him with arson, a Class A crime, and violating conditions of release. He is being held at the Kennebec County jail on $10,000 cash bail.

Following more investigation, a warrant was issued for Shorette’s arrest. In addition to the arson charge, Shorette also is charged with violating conditions of release.

Moss said the fire marshals continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office by phone or through the Arson Tip Line at 800-870-6162.
