Rope tow season opening party followed by a ski free day

Quarry Road Trails plans to host its rope tow season opening party from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at 300 Quarry Road, Waterville.

Then, on Sunday Community Ski Free Day & WinterKids Family Day is set from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Festivities include free skiing and snowshoeing all day, Nordic rental equipment and snowshoes available free of charge between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., guided Nordic ski group lessons at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., guided snowshoe walks at 11 a.m., and 2 p.m., activities for children and more.

The rope tow ski hill will be open for free skiing and snowboarding from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Griffin William Sherry concert is set for 8 p.m. Saturday at the State Theatre, 609 Congress St., Portland.

The Maine singer, songwriter and guitarist wrestles with big questions about life and love in his songs, he also celebrates the magic of spending his days living in a small town. He is known for his vocal delivery, instrumentation, honesty and songcraft.

After 12 years fronting The Ghost of Paul Revere, he offers up his story as a solo artist for the first time on his 2024 full-length debut album, “Hundred Mile Wilderness.”

Tickets cost $30 in advance, $35 day of show.

Waterville Opera House plans to host Eaglemania at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at 1 Common St., Waterville.

The band has been performing for more than a decade by reproducing the music of The Eagles. The band often performs its five part harmony, virtuoso guitar work and ability to emulate the distinct sound of The Eagles to sold-out audiences. The show consists of the Eagles’ greatest hits, as well as select Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh solo efforts.

Johnson Hall Opera House is set to host Bailey’s Mistake at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at 280 Water St., Gardiner.

The Celtic-American, four-piece folk band mixes traditional music from Ireland, Scotland and Newfoundland with new songs about contemporary life in New England. Its sound is driven by bass, drums and guitar with hearty vocal harmonies and bagpipe and whistle tunes.

Bailey’s Mistake features Troy R. Bennett on guitar; Travis Cote on bagpipes; Dean Clegg, who oversees all technical aspects, on percussion; and Rob Babson, the band’s musical leader, on bass and harmony vocals.

Tickets cost $20-$50.
