New Year’s Eve Spectacular

Filled with comedy, music, mayhem & more!

Michael Miclon and his cast of entertainers plan to ring in the new year (sort of … the show ends at 9:30 p.m.) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Hall Opera House, 280 Water St., Gardiner.

Miclon is the Executive/Artistic Director of Johnson Hall but in his former life he traveled the world as a physical comedian.

As an entertainer, he built an international reputation that has brought him to some of the finest theaters and special events across the U.S. and Europe, with such highlights as the Kennedy Center and the White House in Washington D.C., The Keller Theater in Germany, The Victoria Jungfrau Hotel in Switzerland and the Festa Americana in Italy. The Portland Phoenix called him a “comedic genius.”

Reggie Watts

Johnson Hall Opera House is set to stage Reggie Watts at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30, at 280 Water St. Gardiner.

Watts, a musician/comedian/writer/actor, most recently starred as the bandleader on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” He blends and blurs the lines between music and comedy, his performances are 100% improvised.

As a solo performer, his brand of musical/comedy fusion has led to sold out tours in the U.S. and Europe.

The Mallett Brothers Band with Chris Ross

Camden Opera House plans to host The Mallett Brothers Band with Chris Ross at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6, at 29 Elm St., Camden.

The band returns for another Toboggan Nationals weekend show. New England favorites range from alt-country to Americana, country, jam and roots rock.

Ross will open the night.

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt

The Waterville Opera House is set to host Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt at 7 p.m. Feb. 23, at 1 Common St., Waterville.

The Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a manner that breaks down barriers. He has recorded 14 albums.

Hiatt is a master lyricist and satirical storyteller who delivers songs filled with tales of redemption, relationships and surrendering on his own terms.

His lyrics and melodies can be found on more than 20 studio albums, and have been recorded by Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, and more.

Eilen Jewell

An Eileen Jewell concert is planned for 7:30 March 13 at Waldo Theatre, 916 Main St., Waldoboro.

Jewell’s new album, “Get Behind The Wheel,” is about picking up the pieces of her shattered world and finding new purpose and meaning after watching her marriage, her band, and what felt like her entire career fall apart in a series of spectacular, heartbreaking implosions.

Co-produced by multi-instrumentalist Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider, Hayes Carll), the collection pushes the singer and songwriter’s trademark blend of vintage roots complementing her explorations of grief, loss, resilience and redemption. 

Th Idaho native built her career by touring relentlessly with the kind of live show that converts the uninitiated into instant acolytes. Over the course of nine albums, she’s crisscrossed the globe countless times and shared bills with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Loretta Lynn, Mavis Staples, Wanda Jackson, George Jones, and Emmylou Harris.

Northern Cross - A Tribute to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Northern Cross

A tribute band to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young plans to perform at 7:30 p.m. March 28 on Chocolate Church’s Main Stage, 804 Washington St., Bath.

Northern Cross is based in the northeastern U.S., and straddles all the genres of music encompassed by CSNY, from country rock to confessional ballads, from acoustic guitars and voice to electric rock and psychedelia, all centered around a replication of the intricate vocal harmonies.
