I read Maine Turnpike Authority Executive Director Andre Briere’s letter to the editor response, “E-ZPass will take it easier on Mainers,” in the Jan. 1, 2026 paper. He stated that Maine is not a pay-by-plate facility. I’d like to ask Mr. Briere why.
Many other states are pay-by-plate. It’s obvious that the Maine Turnpike Authority has the equipment to do so (since it is able to send letters to violators based on their license plate).
