Gregory Phillip Ruby Sr.

WINTHROP – Gregory Phillip Ruby Sr., 77, of Winthrop, Maine, passed away as a result of an accident at his home on Dec. 26, 2025. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Greg was born on June 28, 1948, in Topsham, Maine, to John P. Ruby Jr. and Cleora (Skelton) Ruby. From an early age he embodied a strong work ethic, determination, and pride in doing things the right way – qualities that defined his life and career. For more than 40 years, Greg was the owner/master electrician of Winthrop Electric. He took great pride in his work and was widely respected for his craftmanship, reliability, an honesty.

A Vietnam Veteran, Greg served his country with honor and carried the weight of the war for the rest of his life. He was a generous man known for his giving nature and enormous heart. Greg would help anyone in need, often quietly and without expectation of recognition. His kindness, humor, and outgoing personality made him a natural friend to many and a steady presence in his community.

Above all else, Greg was a devoted family man. He loved each name bestowed upon him, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves each of his loved ones with many wonderful memories.

Greg was predeceased by his parents, John and Cleora Ruby; his brother, David Ruby, sisters, Kay Poliquin, Linda Campbell and Jean Townsend; as well as nephews Roland Poliquin, David Leonard; great-nephew Gavin Chasse; and grandson, Noah Brochu.

He leaves behind his wife of over 55 years, Amber (Dyer) Ruby; his children, Diane (Ruby) Perry and her husband Patrick of Augusta, Maine, Gregory Ruby Jr, and Emma Ruby; nine grandsons, Shawn, Jordan, Taylor, Aaron, Devin, Connor, Aidin, Alex, and Elijah; five great-grandchildren, Raina, Luka, Asher, Johnathan and Michael. Greg was the 7th born child of nine. He is survived by Jack Ruby, Bonnie Perkins and her husband Tony, Mary Lawrence and her husband Gordon, Joann Hall and her husband David, brother-in-law Rick Townsend. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and family, too may to mention.

A committal service with military honors will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at the Niche Wall at the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be from 12 – 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Augusta Elks Lodge, 397 Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
