The UMaine men’s hockey team allowed three power-play goals and had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped Friday night as Providence rolled to a 6-1 victory in a Hockey East game in Providence, Rhode Island.
The 18th-ranked Friars (10-7-2, 5-3-1 Hockey East) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Logan Sawyer and Hudson Malinoski, with Malinoski’s goal coming during a power play. Jonathan Fauchon and Roger McQueen added power-play goals in the second before Quinn Mantei extended the lead to 5-0.
Maine defenseman Brandon Holt scored a power-play goal in the opening minute of the third period, but McQueen capped the scoring with his second of the night.
Albin Boija started in goal for 12th-ranked Maine (12-8-2, 6-6) but was pulled after allowing three goals on just eight shots. Mathis Rousseau gave up three goals on 18 shots.
Providence goals Jack Parsons made 26 saves.
