Ronald Dana Fenlason

OAKLAND – Ronald Dana Fenlason, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 29, 2025, with his loving wife, Louise, by his side.

Born in the tar paper house in Fairfield Center, Maine, on August 23, 1936, to his beloved parents, Ralph Day Fenlason and Madeline Doris “Flye” Fenlason. Ron’s journey in life was as rich and vibrant as his personality. He was a proud product of the Oakland area schools and then went on to serve in the Army National Guard.

Upon returning from the military, Ron’s career was as diverse as his interests. Whether it was driving trucks hauling chickens alongside his brothers, or running his trash collection business, Ron’s early years saw him behind the wheel. He later served as a route driver and then manager of deliveries for Cushman’s bakery, an experience that further enriched his understanding of people and places and where he fostered his love of all things sweet. He also worked as a salesman for Sabin’s TV and appliance. Ron’s entrepreneurial spirit then led him to buy and run the Korner Store in Oakland, a venture that allowed him to connect with his local community. Even after retirement, his energetic spirit didn’t allow him to remain idle. He then spent 34 happy years driving school bus for the Messalonskee school system, a role he cherished and took great pride in. Among his many roles in life, he was also the sexton of the North Fairfield Friends Cemetery, a position in which he served with great pride, dignity and respect since 1988.

Throughout Ron’s life, whether it was puttering around the house, or going to the vehicle auctions to find the next “big deal”, Ron surely kept busy. Ron was a man of action, always looking for ways to contribute to his community. One of Ron’s favorite sayings was, “if you want something done, ask the busiest man around!” or when referring to something he couldn’t resist, sweets, he would belt out “Suckalaroma!”

Ron was an eternal jokester, the life of every gathering, who could turn a room full of strangers into a room full of friends. His love for a good joke was only matched by his love for the laughter it brought. His jovial nature touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and happy memories.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Lowell Fenlason and John Fenlason; and his son, Jeffrey P. Fenlason.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Louise “Shaw” Fenlason of Oakland, Maine, his sister Rosalie “Fenlason” Perry and her husband Robin; his son Steve Fenlason and wife Lori, son David Fenlason and partner Maurice, and special daughter (in-law) Michelle Fenlason Turner and husband Jamie. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Benjamin Fenlason, Amy Fenlason, and Christopher Storer; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, who were more like family.

There will be a celebration of life on Jan 31, 2026 at 2 p.m. for family and friends at the home Ron and Louise shared in Oakland.

Ronald’s life was a testament to the power of laughter, the strength of community, and the importance of family. His spirit and his stories will live in the hearts of those who loved him.
