Dana Robin Parsons Sr.
AUGUSTA – Dana Robin Parsons Sr., of Augusta, Maine, lovingly known as “Grampy,” passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2026, at the Maine Veterans Home, after a life defined by hard work, service, family, and a deep appreciation for everyday moments. He was born on Oct. 30, 1950, the son of Marcus Mahlon Parsons and Maxine Penney Reed.
Dana was raised in Solon, Maine, the youngest of three boys. Throughout his life, Dana held many jobs, but his most meaningful work was his 37 years of service with the Air National Guard.
During his military career, he traveled extensively, including to South Korea, Japan, Hungary, Germany, France, Switzerland, and England. Dana believed that “the world is our playground” and that wherever you go, there is always something worthwhile to do for others. He carried this belief with him throughout his service and took great pride in passing that legacy on to his family. He was especially proud of his grandson, Tyler, who also serves in the Air National Guard.
Later, Dana worked in janitorial and maintenance services at Lawson before retiring. Even in retirement, he remained active and busy at home, always finding something to fix, build, or improve alongside his wife, Geraldine.
He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He loved swimming with them, teaching them how things worked, and sharing stories from his life. During their childhood, Winter and Tyler spent many nights at his home, where snowmobiling and fishing became some of their most treasured memories. Tyler spent many weekends with him and often spoke of the quality time they shared. In later years, Winter worked alongside Dana on projects around the house, continuing the bond they had built over time. Dana also enjoyed hiking with his daughter, Cathy, and participating together in walks for a cause.
Dana is survived by his faithful dog, Taylor; his wife of 55 years, Geraldine Parsons; his daughter, Cathy Willard, and son-in-law, David Willard; his granddaughters, Winter Parsons and Robin O’Neil, his grandsons, Tyler Parsons and David Willard Jr.; his brother, Marcus Mahlon Parsons and wife Diana; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James Hugh Parsons Sr.; his son, Dana Robin Parsons Jr.; and his parents.
Dana will be remembered for his stories, patience, steady presence, and his desire to teach and share with those he loved. His patience and guidance will live on in those who were lucky to know, love, and be loved by him.
An outdoor celebration of Dana’s life is being planned and will be held later this year at a time and place to be announced.
