Sally (Crosby) Munroe
AUGUSTA – Sally Crosby Munroe, 94, of Augusta died peacefully Wed, Jan 7, 2026, after a long, full, active life.
She was born in Bath on Dec. 16, 1931 to John and Mary Louise (Harriman) Crosby. The family lived in Needham, Mass. until she was 14. When Sally’s parents both passed away at this young age, she moved to Auburn. There she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Alonzo and Pearl Harriman.
Sally graduated from Edward Little in 1949 and from Garland Junior College (now Simmons University) in 1952. That year she married Kenneth H. Munroe of Auburn. Together they raised their four children in Auburn. Sally adored her family and they enjoyed camping, skiing, tennis, and motorcycling.
She established her own business, Sally Munroe Interior Designs, after working several years for her uncle at Harriman Associates Architects. Sally designed the interiors for many residential, commercial, and educational buildings throughout Maine.
Sally enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of her trip to Kenya with the Maine Audubon Society. Throughout her life she continued to play tennis, bridge, and she volunteered her time at Maine General Health and for PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) for women.
Sally loved to make quilts and small Persian style rugs. She was an excellent cook and wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. All will sorely miss her.
Sally was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 2016; and her sister, Marilouise Buerhaus in 1994.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Harriman; her daughter, Kerry Munroe, her son, Kenneth Jr. “Rusty” Munroe and wife Christine, her daughter, Melissa Hatch and husband Peter, her daughter, Jennifer Trafton and husband Steve; her grandchildren Brian, Kelsey, Eric, Lindsey, Harry, Karl, Thomas, Alexander; and her great-grandchildren, Ramona, Jalen, Harvey and Jaire.
Sally’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring people at Glenridge Long Term Memory Care and Maine General Hospice.
A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
