Gordon J. Pepper

BELGRADE – Gordon J. Pepper, 90, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Johnston, R.I. on Feb. 19, 1935, the son of the late William G. and Edith M. (Chapman) Pepper.

In 1954 Gordon married the love of his life Priscilla Murdock and they started a family together in Rhode Island. In 1968 the couple purchased a dairy farm and relocated their family to Belgrade where they ran the farm until 1986.

As a child, Gordon learned the value of hard work as he would trap and sell furs to help support his family. This strong work ethic served him well throughout his life as he ran the farm, worked as a long distance truck driver, and cut his own wood. Gordon was self-taught in many things, designing and building just about anything from tools to boats to one of his greatest accomplishments, their log cabin on the hill near Gould Pond. Gordon took pride in accomplishing projects up until the last few months of his life.

Gordon was a true outdoorsman and an avid hunter and fisherman. Following retirement, he became a boat captain and chartered deep sea fishing expeditions on his boat. He spent many hours on his boat the Sea Beagle with his beagle Ernie and his many friends. After his saltwater days, he spent many of his days on the local lakes and ponds fishing for white perch and crappie. He loved to hunt, but especially loved rabbit hunting because it meant spending time with his beloved beagles, especially his latest, Dusty.

Gordon also very much enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whether it be hunting and fishing, making all the softball and baseball games and motocross races, or spending summer days at the beach. He took great pride in his gardens, providing all sorts of fresh vegetables for his family.

Gordon will be remembered for his strength, never ending ambition and the family he and Priscilla built.

He was predeceased by his wife Priscilla Pepper; two daughters, Cynthia M. Pepper-Morin and Hilda R. Duplessis; a granddaughter, Katherine Spiller; and all of his siblings George, Mildred, Ruth, Donald, Ethel and Kenny.

Gordon is survived by his children, Elizabeth A. Pepper of Belgrade, William “Billy” Pepper of Fayette and his wife Becky, David E. Pepper, Leslie M. Pepper and his wife Kerry, Amy L. Faucher and her husband Jeff, and Hilda’s husband Dickie, all of Belgrade; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A burial will be held at a later date at the Pepper Family Cemetery in Belgrade.
