Cheverus, still undefeated, is still the unanimous No. 1 in the Varsity Maine girls basketball poll. That’s not the only thing that is the same as last week’s poll. One could say that the poll is still. South Portland is still No. 2, Sanford still No. 3, Edward Little still No. 5 and Gray-New Gloucester still No. 8.

Here’s what has changed: Mt. Ararat, fourth last week, is now tied for third with Sanford. Oceanside (No. 6) and Gardiner (No. 7) have swapped places, as have No. 9 Biddeford and No. 10 Hampden Academy.

A few of the top 10 teams face each other this week, so there should be more variety in next week’s poll.

The Varsity Maine girls basketball poll is based on games played before Jan. 20, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
