The recent article about the community dinner in Waterville taking place despite concerns about ICE is a veiled attempt to create fear and chaos (“New Mainers plan Waterville dinner despite ICE concerns,” Jan. 16). You have nothing factual in this article but rather conjecture. It lacks any fundamental journalistic framework.
I live in Oakland. ICE does not show up randomly to snoop around a gathering such as this but, rather, they are working to seek out those among us who are here illegally. They are highly trained public servants and your paper has become cheapened by what you are attempting to do here. It is publishing nothing more than gossip.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
