The Cony boys basketball team built a 14-point lead in the first quarter then withstood a third-quarter surge to beat Camden Hills 70-61 on Saturday night in Rockport, handing the Windjammers their first loss of the season. 

The Rams (13-2) led 25-11 after the first period and by 15 points at the half. Camden Hills (13-1) outscored the Rams 20-8 in the third quarter to pull within three, but Cony held on.

Jackson Kay led Cony with 19 points. Parker Morin added 18 and Carter Brathwaite 14. 

Nolan Ames had 28 points for Camden Hills (13-1). Kiefer Healey added 19 points.

JOHN BAPST 48, WATERVILLE 34: Jaxson Sockberson scored 15 points and the Crusaders (3-6) beat the Purple Panthers (2-12) in Waterville.

Colby Haggerty added 12 points and Kam Weymouth had 11 for John Bapst.

Elijah Cullen scored 12 points and Derek Couture added 11 for Waterville. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Maddie Provost scored 10 points in the second quarter as Lawrence stretched its lead to nine points and held on to beat Hermon 53-49 in a Class B North girls basketball game on Saturday in Hermon.

Provost finished with 24 points for Lawrence (10-4). Ashley Shores added 13.

Abbie Bradstreet finished with 20 points and Rebecca Balmas had 10 for Hermon (9-6). 

WRESTLING

MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE: Four Dirigo wrestlers won their weight class to help the Cougars win the Mountain Valley Conference title on Saturday in Rumford.

Caiden Skidgell (144), Leighton Waite (165), Tanner Bradeen (175) and Xavier Ocasio (215) were individual winners for Dirigo, which finished with 191.5 points. Mountain Valley was second with 140 and Monmouth/Richmond/Winthrop was third with 138.5.

Chance Watson, who won the 138 title for Mountain Valley, was named the conference’s wrestler of the year. 

BOYS HOCKEY

MESSALONSKEE 4, PRESQUE ISLE/CARIBOU/C. AROOSTOOK/WISDOM 0: Logan Baron had two goals and the Eagles (10-2) beat the Presque Isle co-op (4-6) in Presque Isle. 

Alex Beckwith added a goal and an assist for Messalonskee. Shawn Higgins added a goal ad Tatum Doucette had two assists. 

Nathan Kirk made 17 saves to earn the shutout. 

GIRLS HOCKEY

YARMOUTH/FREEPORT 6, WINSLOW/GARDINER/CONY/LAWRENCE/MESSALONSKEE/MARANACOOK/ERSKINE ACADEMY 1: Maya Nasveschuk had three goals to lead the Clippers (13-2-1) over the Black Tigers (5-10-1) at the Thomas College Ice Vault in Hallowell.

Presley Strout addd a goal and an assist, while Dylan McElhinney and Adelaide Strout also scored for the Clippers.

Leah Michaud scored and Emma Jean made 57 saves for the Black Tigers.
