A man was found dead near Martin Stream Road in Fairfield shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Jason Grant, 46, of Oakland, was found by Fairfield police when they responded to a 911 call about a man not breathing on the side of the road. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will conduct an autopsy on Grant in the coming days, Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release Sunday.

Fairfield police and several other law enforcement vehicles were at the scene on Martin Stream Road, near the line with Norridgewock, Saturday morning. The stretch of the road is rural; no buildings line it on either side for more than a mile in each direction.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central was called to the scene once Fairfield police determined Grant was deceased, Moss said. State police conducted interviews and collected evidence “all day,” she said.

Moss did not indicate whether there was evidence of foul play at the scene.

Casey Dugas, a spokesperson for Fairfield police, said Saturday there was no ongoing threat to the public. He said he could not release any additional information.

Moss asked anyone who was on Martin Stream Road in Fairfield or Norridgewock from Friday evening into early Saturday morning with information to call state police at 207-624-7076.
