Gerald H. Weeks

SKOWHEGAN – Gerald H. Weeks, affectionately known as “Gerry” or “Bus” and lovingly called “Poppy” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2026, at the age of 95 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor.

Born July 16, 1930, in South Solon, Maine, Gerry was the son of Fred Warren Weeks and Mildred Boyington Weeks. A proud graduate of Skowhegan High School, Class of 1948, Gerry lived a life defined by service, adventure, and devotion to family.

Gerry enlisted in the United States Air Force on Jan. 11, 1952, beginning a distinguished 24-year career. He served as a B-29 gunner during the Korean War, flying combat bombing missions until the armistice in 1953. Later, he transitioned to a Boom Operator on KC-97 and KC-135 aircraft, completing 113 combat missions during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. His dedication earned him the Air Medal with cluster and the Air Force Commendation Medal with cluster. Gerry retired as a Senior Master Sergeant on March 31, 1976.

Following his military service, Gerry continued his aviation career with The Boeing Company, working internationally in Iran and Saudi Arabia, providing instruction for air-refueling Boeing 747 aircraft. He earned multiple pilot certifications and became an instructor pilot at Hampton Airfield, sharing his expertise with aspiring aviators. Flying was Gerry’s lifelong passion—whether in the Air Force or civilian life, he approached every flight with skill and enthusiasm.

In February 1957, Gerry married Sandra Leaf, and together they raised three children, Jeffery Weeks, Jonathan Weeks, and Linda Weeks. Gerry and Sandra also opened their hearts and home to raise their niece and nephews Heidi, Erik, and Peter Hilliker.

After returning to Skowhegan in 1991, Gerry reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Carlene Foster, and they remained devoted partners until his passing.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gerry had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and some of his happiest moments were spent at his camp on Moosehead Lake, which remains in the family.

Gerry is survived by his three children and their spouses, Jeff and Beth Weeks, Jon and Rhonda Weeks, and Linda (Weeks) and Terry Grimm; five grandchildren, Cole (Jeff), Jack and Jeff (Jon), Lauren and Jordan (Linda); and four great-grandchildren, Jaden, Mason, and Theodore (Lauren), and Riley (Cole). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Weeks, his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Barbara Weeks, and his brother-in-law, Ivar Pearson.

A memorial service will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., in the committal shelter on May 1, at 1 p.m.
