Margo Irene Dornacker

AUGUSTA – Margo Irene Dornacker, 71, passed away peacefully after a long illness at Marshwood Center in Lewiston, on Jan. 23, 2026.

Born to Herman E. Thayer and Margaret M. Thayer on Sept. 14, 1954, Margo was one of 12 children.

A graduate of Hall Dale High School, Class of 1973, Margo started an early career at Blake’s Nursing Home and Gilbert Manor. In 1978, she answered a higher calling and joined the United States Navy, serving with honor and distinction until 1992. Her commitment to military service extended far beyond her enlistment – Margo remained deeply devoted to veterans’ causes and held a lifelong respect for all who served.

Margo’s passions were as vibrant as her personality. She was a fierce competitor on the bowling lanes, where her joy and focus were unmistakable. Tuesday evenings were reserved for quilting with her cherished circle of friends, and she never missed a chance for a spontaneous road trip. Her love of cribbage was legendary – if you played, you played with Margo, and she played to win.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, David E. Thayer.

She is survived by 10 siblings; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews; and friends who will remember her warmth, wit, and unwavering loyalty and her sarcastic quips.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Marshwood Center and Andwell for the exceptional care they provided.

A private burial will be held.

Condolences, stories and photos may be shared through the funeral home website at: http://www.plummerfh.com.
