President Trump says he has to answer only to himself and his morality as to the limits of his authority. He doesn’t feel bound by laws or treaties. He arbitrarily ordered the killing of supposed drug smugglers without providing proof. He unilaterally sent troops into Venezuela. He has shown no remorse for the killing of innocent civilians during that incursion. He is cavalier about sending our troops into the country. He barely mentions human rights abuses or bringing democracy to the country. All he talks about is his right to control their oil.
He wants to invade Cuba, though they are no threat to us. He wants to get rid of a democratically elected president in Colombia. He talks of sending the military into Mexico, one of our allies.
In 1917, we bought the Virgin Islands with the understanding we would have no claim on Greenland. In 1951, they allowed us to establish military bases. Now he wants to show the world that we do not honor our agreements by saying he wants to own Greenland, even if he has to use military force.
If he is allowed to do all that he has talked about, how could we possibly object to Russia taking over countries in Europe, or China taking over nations in its part of the world?
He is turning us from being an ally into being a nation that cannot be trusted.
