Ruth “Bunny” Joan (Smith) True
CHELSEA – On Jan. 27, 2026, Ruth “Bunny” Joan (Smith) True, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family; Ruth’s faith “became sight” of her eternal home in Heaven with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and many family members and friends who had gone before her.
Born in East Monmouth to Gordon and Annie (Chick) Smith, Ruth was a graduate of Kents Hill School in Readfield. She married George R. True of Wayne and had four wonderful children, Betty Jean, Pamela, George Jr., and Pauline.
Ruth was a faithful member at Assembly of God Churches including Readfield Assembly of God; Augusta Gospel Tabernacle; Calvary Temple and Centerpoint Church in Waterville; and most recently Kennebec Valley Assembly of God in Chelsea. She taught Sunday School and the Little Lambs class, was president of Aglow, played piano at church, and led Missionettes, the ladies’ prayer group at KVAG, and a Widows’ Solace Life Group.
Her favorite thing to do was to share her hope and faith in Jesus with both family and friends through cards, letters, and conversations. She played the piano and sang at home daily. Writing stories of her life brought her great joy. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and cooking with family and friends, and especially loved going out to eat, to the coast, shopping, and spending time with her dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; and seven siblings, Earl, Cora, Elmore, Carol, Lynne, Chelsea, and Harry Smith; grandson, Benjamin Adams; her husband of 56 years, George, Sr.; and daughter, Betty Jean (True) Adams.
She is survived by her sister, Helen (Smith) Head of Mystic, Conn.; daughter, Pam (True) Szaro of Lincoln, R.I., son, George R. True, Jr. and wife, Peggy (Dawbin) True, daughter, Pauline (True) Heath and husband, Michael, all of Chelsea; 11 grandchildren, Tony Adams, Rebekah Szaro, Luke Adams, Stacia (Szaro) Bolitho, Dustin Heath and wife, Holly, Sean Heath and wife, Kimberly, Jared Heath, Amanda (Adams) Arroyo and husband, Tim, Jake True and wife, Charity, Katie True, and Bradley True; and 17 great-grandchildren, Silas Bolitho, Alexander Heath, Annalee Bolitho, Abigail Arroyo, Elise Heath, Lincoln Bolitho, Owen Heath, Cecilia Heath, Elliette Bolitho, Avery True, Brynn Heath, Gabriella Adams, Aurora True, Ezra Heath, Asher True, Leo Heath, and Arlo Heath; and numerous in-laws; nieces, nephews; and other relatives.
