America was a great country, created by hard work, innovation and, yes, sacrifice. Sacrifice in the hopes of a better life, a better world for our children and their children. Sacrifice was the cornerstone of the so-called “greatest generation.”
But what are we doing now? Putting our collective heads in the sand, selfishly piling up debt ($38.5 trillion and growing) so we don’t have to pay our own way in taxes, ignoring and denying science as we burn baby burn dirty energy, while allowing more and more industrial pollutants in our rapidly warming water, air and land.
Our children and future generations, in their less and less livable world, while paying off our debts, will look with shame and regret on our self-indulgent, shortsighted and unsustainable path. Perhaps we can still save face. Let’s be responsible adults and start paying our own way and being good stewards of this fragile planet.
