Elizabeth “Betty” Spaulding
WINSLOW – Elizabeth “Betty” Spaulding, 85, of Winslow, passed away on Jan. 23, 2026, after a period of declining health.
Betty was born on Dec. 9, 1940 to William and Estelle (Cota) Hussey. She graduated from Winslow High School, Class of 1959. Upon graduation, she started work at Federal Trust Company for a brief period. She then worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Thompson’s Volkswagen and moved on to insurance billing for Maine General and HealthReach. She retired from the payroll department at Kennebec Supply in 2001.
Betty’s hobbies included reading, gardening and knitting, especially cat blankets for the Humane Society. She had many beautiful perennial gardens that she tended at home as well as gardening at the Waterville Country Club. She volunteered at the Waterville Humane Society, serving as Chair of their annual plant sale for many years and was a past recipient of their Volunteer of the Year Award. She had a love of all animals, especially baby wild animals.
She married her high school sweetheart, LeBaron “Lee” Spaulding on Oct. 8, 1960, and they shared 65 years of marriage together.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Barbara Meyers; her in-laws Daniel and Theresa Spaulding; and sister-in-law, Theodora Chaykowski.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Lee Spaulding of Winslow; daughters Janet Krch of Saco, Jill Ball and husband Kirk of Benton; granddaughters Brittany Schissler of Waterboro and Lindsay Ball of Cortland, N.Y.; great-grandchildren Ravannel and Kinsley of Waterboro; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Hunt and husband Royden of Island Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Waterville Elks Club Lounge.
