Sandra “Martha” Lou Kimball
DRESDEN – Sandra “Martha” Lou Kimball of Dresden, born on July 18, 1954 passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2026 at home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.
Sandy was born and raised in Tulsa, Okla. with her three sisters and brother. After graduating high school, she continued to work at her family’s restaurant, Big Al’s. She later met her future husband, Russell, at a local church. Sandy and Russell got married on Dec. 22, 1979. They welcomed their first child, David, in 1984 while still living in Oklahoma. Later that year, they moved up to New Hampshire where Russell’s family resided and where they welcomed their second child, Kathryn in 1985. After a short time in New Hampshire, they finally settled in Maine where they had their remaining four children, Patrick, Angela, and the twins Christopher and Annah. Shortly after coming up to the east coast, the Kimball’s found Eastern Orthodoxy, which provided them a lifetime of devotion, love and friendships. When they got baptized, they were given the names Martha and Joseph, which they were more commonly known as. It was this church that became their identity.
Sandy’s life’s work was raising kind, loving, and faithful children. Her children and 13 grandchildren were her greatest pride whom she loved deeply. In addition to caring for her children, she also worked as a CNA for over 20 years caring for the elderly with Alzheimer’s. Additionally, she managed the candle desk at church for many years; where she was the welcoming face to all who entered.
Taking care of others before herself, often giving more than she had, was Sandy’s way of life. She carried a quiet strength and kindness that made everyone around her feel safe and cared for. As a dear friend, Fr. Michael said in her eulogy, “She was a simple and uncomplicated woman.” A lover of her faith, God, her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, crafting, giving, reading, laughter, ice cream and chocolate, Sandy was one of a kind.
“Acquire the Spirit of peace, and a thousand souls around you will be saved” – Saint Seraphim of Sarov

She is survived by her husband, Deacon Russell “Joseph” Kimball of 46 years; son, David (Clarissa), daughter, Kathryn, son, Patrick (Molly), daughter, Angela (Alexei), son, Deacon Christopher (Natalia), and daughter, Annah (Jose); as well as 13 grandchildren.
A funeral and burial were held on Jan. 24.
