If Cheverus finishes the regular season undefeated, nobody can say it was easy. The Stags have gone 16-0 so far against stout Class A South competition, and their final two games might be their most difficult. Cheverus, the unanimous No. 1 in the Varsity Maine girls basketball poll four the fourth straight week, finishes at No. 6 Biddeford on Tuesday and then at No. 2 South Portland on Thursday. The Tigers have won 11 games in a row, while the Red Riots are 15-0 since losing to the Stags 51-46 in the season opener.
Biddeford has been a little overshadowed by other A South stalwarts — Cheverus, South Portland and Sanford — this season, but the Varsity Maine voters are catching on: the Tigers have finally cracked the top six after being ranked eighth last week and bouncing between No. 8 and No. 10 the previous three polls.
Four teams moved up one spot in the rankings: Mt. Ararat to third, Oceanside to fifth, Gardiner to eighth and Camden Hills is now ninth.
The Varsity Maine girls basketball poll is based on games played before Feb. 3, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
