William Robert Cunningham

AUGUSTA – William Robert (Bob/Bill) Cunningham, 85, of Augusta, formerly of Farmington, returned peacefully to His Savior on Jan. 27, 2026, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Bob was born in Gardiner to Walter Sr. and Mary (Taylor) Cunningham on June 16, 1940. He was also welcomed by older siblings Walter Jr. and Virginia. The family was complete with the arrival of Nancy.

Bob spent his youth in Gardiner surrounded by many relatives and good friends. He enjoyed learning by doing. He could turn a wrench and play guitar beautifully.

Bob worked different jobs and was a very hard worker. Bob was known for his loving, helpful, and generous heart. He shared this with everyone who knew him. When it came to family, he cried over everyone of them if he felt the need.

Bob shared marriage with two lovely ladies. His first wife Jackie (Eaton) gave him five children, Bobby, Nancy, Lorena, Daniel and Sandra. Bob also cared for his nieces and nephews, Hazel, Donna, Donald Jr., Frank and Bill, as his own! Family had no bounds and he didn’t hold back tears over any of them if he felt them.

Bob’s second marriage with Faye (Curtis) found home in Farmington. During these years he enjoyed great friendships and activities, especially outdoor projects. Bob was a keep-moving kind of guy. Bob also had a great love for his pets/dogs, most recently Precious. She was his best girl and dearly loved!

Bob stayed close with his family during these years. They returned to Augusta in 2024.

Bob will be remembered by Faye, Bill and Toni Cunningham of Augusta, Lorena and Philip Zahradnik of Amherst, Mass., Dan and Heather Cunningham of Oxford, and Sandy and Vern Gardiner of Hallowell. Bob’s legacy carries on with nine grandchildren, Mark, Hannah, Alysia, Jessica, Denyce, Elizabeth, Emily, Eron, Payton and their partners. Bob also loved 11 great grandchildren; and three great great grandbabies.

Bob joined his eternal family including his father Walter Sr, mother Mary, brother Walter Jr, sister Virginia and infant daughter Nancy.

Bob will be remembered as a loving family man, with a big heart and unique sense of humor. Two and a half fingers short of full comedy. He will be greatly missed.

Celebration of Life to be held in the spring. Date to be decided.
