Gov. Janet Mills, in her State of the State address, advocated for meeting some social needs, such as health care, free community college enrollment and affordable housing. Republican Senate Minority Leader Trey Stewart’s objection to her address was that, “Evil is at work here at the State House.”
His response is bizarre, reflecting a distorted, dishonorable view of the world. Evil? I can appreciate that people often disagree on policies and the role of government in addressing needs. But evil? Are Sen. Stewart and his kind projecting their attitudes onto others?
