Maine Pond Hockey Classic/Winter Jamboree

The Maine Pond Hockey Classic youth competition is set for Saturday and Sunday at Camp Tracy in Oakland.

Now entering its next era on McGrath Pond, the tournament brings players of all skill levels to the ice for fast-paced 4-on-4 pond hockey games – no goalies, no boards, just raw winter hockey action.

 The Winter Jamboree, free family fun on McGrath Pond is set for Sunday and will feature sledding, snowman, snow sculpture, snow-fort building and more.

Waterville Opera House is set to host Yellow Brick Road at 8 p.m. Friday at 1 Common St.

Somerset SnowFest

The annual Somerset SnowFest will kick off with Winter Carnival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lake George Regional Park, West.

Winter Carnival events include box and sled racing for children, anything but a sled downhill racing, ice hole competition, ice fishing, ice skating and more.

Free, daily outdoor activities are set for Monday through Friday, Feb. 20, events include sledding at Coburn Park, Skowhegan Outdoors free outdoor programming and Lake George Regional Park is free for use during Somerset SnowFest.

Fun Day in the Park is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 18, with Skowhegan Outdoors and R.E.A.C.H. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coburn Park.

There will be horse-drawn carriage rides and a fun day in the snow with R.E.A.C.H.! Activities will include snowman building, snowball fights, walking in a winter wonderland. Be sure to dress appropriately. Warm and sturdy footwear is recommended.

Skijor Skowhegan Volunteer Day is set for Friday, Feb. 20, at Skowhegan Fairgrounds; registration required.

Don’t miss Skijor Skowhegan set from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Skowhegan Fairgrounds.

Spectators can watch skiers and snowboards navigate a groomed track outfitted with gates, jumps and rings while being pulled by a rope behind a horse and rider.

Other activities include a Dress to Impress costume contest during intermission, human slalon races, a beer garden at The Stable and more.

Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble

Waldo Theatre is set to stage Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 916 Main St. in Waldoboro.

The legendary Chicago multi-percussionist and composer Sir Kahil El’Zabar, celebrates 50 years of The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble’s legacy and unwavering contribution to Great Black Music.

The ensemble was formed in 1974 shortly after Sir Kahil El’Zabar graduated from Lake Forest College, with the goal “to combine concepts of African American music with its earlier roots in traditional African music, to produce new motifs and sounds true to their origins yet firmly pointed in a new artistic direction ”of enlightenment and deep listening.”

Half a century later and the rich, ever-evolving sound they are known for, is still going strong. Tickets cost $30-$55; thewaldotheatre.org
