Elizabeth J. “Betty” Susi

SCARBOROUGH – Elizabeth J. “Betty” Susi, 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Feb. 3, 2026, in Scarborough.

Betty was born on Sept. 17, 1933, in Pittsfield, the beloved daughter of Leola Mercier. She graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1952. On July 2, 1955, she married her true soulmate, Robert Susi, and together they shared a devoted marriage and raised five children, building a home filled with love, faith, and care.

Betty found great joy in being a homemaker and lovingly cared for her family throughout her life. She had a talent for sewing, cooking, and knitting, and she generously shared these gifts with those around her. Her heart for service extended far beyond her home. She was a hospice volunteer for more than 25 years, offering comfort, compassion, and dignity to countless individuals and families during their most tender moments.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Betty loved the Lord wholeheartedly. She served as Sunday School Superintendent in churches in both Pittsfield and Waterville, was a devoted student of the Bible, and a faithful prayer warrior whose quiet strength and prayers touched many lives. She also served for several years as President of the American Baptist Women, reflecting her lifelong commitment to service and fellowship.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her five children: Lorelei Rackliff of Oakland; Heidi Roy and her husband Leo of Burnham; Vickie Crockett and her husband Bruce of Floral City, Florida; Rob Susi and his wife Julie of South Portland; and Jessica Bigelow and her husband Ryan of Lewiston. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and her dear sister, Barbara White.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Susi Sr.; her sister Donna Preble; her sons-in-law Maurice Hall and Greg Rackliff; her grandson-in-law Remer Taylor III; and her great-great-grandson Liam Robert Hammershoy.

A memorial service with reception celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 2 p.m., June 6, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield, 245 Main Street, Pittsfield. A committal will take place following reception at the Village Cemetery in Pittsfield.
