Energy policy has a massive impact on the daily lives of Mainers. It shows up in our monthly bills and business costs. Those costs determine whether people can afford to live and work in the communities they love. That’s why Sen. Susan Collins’ practical approach to energy policy deserves recognition.

Maine needs a diverse energy portfolio, and the senator’s support for commonsense energy policy ensures that we have one. No single energy source can get the job done. We rely on a mix that includes battery storage, biomass and other resources to keep power reliable and affordable. That balance protects families and local businesses.

Sen. Collins has proven she can look past ideology and focus on what works for Mainers. She understands the realities facing mill towns, manufacturers and small businesses. She knows that investing in a broad range of energy solutions is one of the best ways to keep energy affordable for Mainers.

Lower energy costs aren’t just a nice idea. They mean more breathing room for families. They mean employers can keep jobs here instead of looking elsewhere. And they mean communities across Maine can grow without being held back by rising utility bills.

Androscoggin County plays an important role in Maine’s economy and our state’s energy future. Sen. Collins gets that. That’s why I am grateful for her continued commitment to low-cost energy policies that put Maine people first.

Sen. Bruce Bickford
Auburn
