BURTONSVILLE, Md. – John J. “Bunny” Colvin, III, left this life on Jan. 30, 2026.

He was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Portland, to John J. Colvin, Jr. and Helen Morris Colvin.

He was a 1963 graduate of Cheverus High School, Portland. He went on to graduate from the University of Southern Maine in 1972 and the University of Maine at Orono in 1974 earning his master’s degree in economics.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to1968, including more than three years in HMX-1 (White House Helicopter Squadron) in the Presidential Support Units in Quantico, Va. and Washington, D.C. During this time he served as Marine One escort for President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Following completion of graduate school in 1974, John was employed for nearly 50 years as a retail professional in a variety of management, operations, merchandising and real estate positions in Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut. He retired as Director of Leasing from Ratner companies of Vienna, Va., in 2013.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen; infant brother, Michael, brothers-in-law Carl J. Burrill and Richard Sasville.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Suzanne McCausland Colvin, formerly of Augusta; daughter, Crista Meghan Colvin and granddaughter Alexandra Helen Colvin both of Silver Spring, Md.; four sisters, Ellen Burrill of Westbrook, Lauree (Joseph) Aragona of The Villages, Fla., Cathy (Stephen) Giobbi of Portland, Paulette Sasville of Portland, and two brothers, Charles E. of Portland and Robert Steven (Nancy O’Brien) of Gorham; a very special sister-in-law, Jeanna Best of Portland; five nieces and seven nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; countless cousins; and one special mother-in-law, Millie McCausland Sexton.

For 48 years John and Suzanne enjoyed several annual treks to Maine enjoying the McCausland family camp on Lake Cobbosseecontee in Winthrop. Many hours were spent there with his goddaughter, niece Krista Lewellyn and her husband Ted and their beloved dogs.

John was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all types of games. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan even when they were having an off-season. He also enjoyed supporting the University of Maryland Terrapins when they won the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in 2002. And, of course, the New England Patriots were always exciting. He watched the Super Bowl from above!

Per John’s wishes there will be no visiting hours or formal funeral. There will be a private committal service at the Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Md. at a later date.
