Clara White of Orono and Alden Reardon of Fort Kent both won Class C classical titles for the third year in a row Monday on the first day of the Nordic skiing state championships in Fort Kent.

Freeport’s Lucy Huggett won the Class A girls race and Evelyn Lacasse of Greely was the Class B champion. Boys winners, in addition to Reardon, were Deering’s Jack Borland (Class A) and Yarmouth’s Alexander Gordon (Class B).

White finished the 5-kilometer race in 17 minutes, 8 seconds and will start Tuesday’s freestyle pursuit with a lead of 4 minutes, 13 seconds. Her time was the fastest of the day among the girls, regardless of class, by more than 2 1/2 minutes.

Huggett’s winning time in Class A was 20:21.1. The Falcons had three skiers in the top five, as Amelia Prince finished third (20:44.4) and Laurel Wright was fifth (21:51.4). Hope Werner (11th) and Bella Bukaty (13th) also finished in the top 15.

Emma Price of Portland placed second in 20:42.6 and Eliza Resnick of Falmouth was fourth (21:32.2).

Lacasse had the second-best time among girls while winning Class B in 19:47.0. Ida Waterman of Gray-New Gloucester was second in 20:20.2 and defending champion Rowan Barry of Greely was third in 20:33.3.

Nela Paldusova finished eight, giving Greely three skiers in the top 10.

In Class C, Addison Chasse of Fort Kent placed second behind White. Nyssa Wilkinson of Waynflete, Zaya Irving of Mount View and Piper Gagnon of Fort Kent rounded out the top five.

Fort Kent’s Reardon was the fastest boys skier across all classes, posting a time of 15:25.8. Fionn Mattson of Maine Coast Waldorf was a distant second in Class C at 17:03.8, followed by Ben Chartier of Fort Fairfield, Samuel Geissinger of Spruce Mountain and Sam St. Germain of Winthrop.

The Yarmouth boys put four skiers in the top 10 in Class B, led by Gordon, who had the day’s second-best time at 16:14.7 as he beat teammate Leif Hellstedt (16:21.9). Peter Colianni of Greely, Jackie Chalmers of Yarmouth and Owen Beal Tate of Waterville also were in the top five.

Borland’s winning time in Class A was 16:46.5. Clayton Hickey (17:02.7) of Falmouth took second in a tight battle with Brunswick’s Daire Woodruff (17:03.4) and Fryeburg Academy’s Thomas Hubbell (17:07.4). Portland’s Sam Morrison (17:22.2) finished fifth.
