In 89 years of living, I’ve learned a few important things. One is that there are far more good people than bad. I’ve met, become acquainted with and become friends with kind, generous, capable people and almost no criminals, mean-spirited or vicious people.

I’ve lived in Maine, Florida and Arizona. Same thing everywhere I go. Good people of all colors, genders and social standings. Some of them were even politicians.

So why is our country, with a majority of good people, now controlled by mean-spirited and vicious people with no regard for other human beings unless those human beings can serve them in some way?

I finished high school and college, so I’m reasonably intelligent, but this is beyond me. But never mind that, my bigger concern is no matter how it happened, what can we do to change this sad situtation? Impeach the president? A Republican majority won’t let that happen. Hope that he’ll die of natural causes in bed at night? I would never suggest such a thing. Besides, there’s the matter of JD Vance. Start a revolution and march by the millions on Washington, D.C.? Uh-uh. The jerks in charge have access to many very powerful weapons.

How about we good people run for office — local, state or national if we’re capable — and be willing to stand up to the challenges? And, vow to vote in every election for good people who are smart, honest and truly care about the welfare of their fellow citizens.
