Having a home in Maine for over 40 years, and going to both “summah camp” and school in Maine, I have come to understand what “ice out” means: a new beginning — a new season. That cold crisp air, a red sunset, gray skies and a gray frozen lake. To awaken the next morning to sun and an open, shiny blue lake and putting the kayak in the water for the first time in months.
Today, “ICE out” has a totally new meaning. Yes, getting them out of our state and our thoughts means a new spring; one of new growth. A feeling of safety, to go out and enjoy our state for all of its beauty.
We need to stand united. We all know “Life is Good” and what its true meaning is.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
