The letter “Defend immigrants and their contributions” (Jan. 30) makes perfect sense, just not in this era of rampant illegal immigration, courtesy of four years of President Biden.
In the middle part of the 20th century (referenced in the letter) immigration was controllable via Ellis Island or otherwise. At that time, Central America wasn’t flooding our borders by the millions with illegal immigrants. Again, courtesy of Biden. During the mid-19th century, my direct relatives, from the British Isles, came through Canada to Maine, and most gravitated to the surrounding area of Bridgewater. All became American citizens promptly, thereby making all their descendants legal citizens. That’s the design of America, assimilate and be legal about it.
But nowhere in the letter was illegal immigration addressed. Trump administration “border czar” Tom Homan and his officers are not forces of “hate and exclusion.” He was in Minnesota recently to quell the peaceful “rioters.” Peaceful “protesters” stand on sidewalks holding signs displaying displeasure about something. Nationwide, ICE protesters are anything but truly peaceful. The correct description is: unlawfully impeding the lawful removal of illegal immigrants, who have committed serious crimes such as rape, robbery, murder, etc.
