Michael J. Dostie

HAMPDEN – Michael J. Dostie passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2026, at the age of 71, in Hermon, following a long illness. He was born March 26, 1954, in Augusta, the son of Joseph and Lorraine (Lapierre) Dostie.

Michael was raised in Augusta where he attended St. Augustine Catholic School and graduated from Cony High School, Class of 1972. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine in Orono in 1976. He began his career as a reporter for the Madawaska Times, moving to Madawaska, Maine, where he spent two years in Aroostook County. He later relocated to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota in 1981. Upon returning to Maine, Michael settled in Bangor, where he built a long and respected career practicing workers’ compensation law. Over the years, he worked with Leen & Emery, Tucker & Dostie, and Rudman Winchell until his retirement in 2015.

Michael is survived by his partner of 25 years, Margaret “Maggie” Magee; his stepson, Jared Dostie and his wife Gabrielle of Atlanta, Ga.; his cherished granddaughter, Charlotte B. Dostie of Atlanta; his brothers, Wilfred Dostie and his wife Sally of Benton, Tenn., Ronald Dostie and his wife Robin of Centreville, Va., Donald Dostie and his wife Gail of Augusta, and Andre Dostie and his wife Brenda of Framingham, Mass.; his sisters, Lucille Weeks and her husband Jeff of Augusta, and Theresa Dow and her husband Charles of Rochester, NY.

He will be deeply missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Patrick Dostie and Jeffrey Dostie.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Chris Urquhart and Erika Emery at Memory Lane in Hermon, as well as the compassionate care team at Gentiva Hospice, Lisa, Josh, and Nicole, for the kindness and support shown to Michael over the past year.
