BELFAST – Jeanine Sylvia (Roy) Brown Gay died on Oct. 4, 2025, at her home in Belfast. She was 93 years old.
Jean was born to Arline Leona (Pelletier) and Sylvio Joseph Roy in their home at 5 Autumn Street in Waterville on Dec. 28, 1931. She graduated from Waterville High in 1949 and married Bradford Brown of Vassalboro in 1951.
She is survived by their three children, Jane Roy Brown of Conway, Mass., Jeffrey P. Brown and wife Sarah Taylor of Belfast, and Laurah J. Brown of Vassalboro.
Also surviving Jean are five grandchildren, Jessica Brown Tallab and husband Hussam, Sarah Brown Vanderhoof and husband Jonathan, Samantha Rule and husband Silas Holmes, Dakota Koenig and partner Orlando Morgan, and Julius Koenig and wife Jennifer. Jean’s great-grandchildren are Larsa and Moses Tallab; Lydia and Nadine Vanderhoof; Ezra Faucher and Franny, Delia, and Greta Holmes; Eve, Piper, and Remy Koenig; and August Morgan. Also surviving Jean is her sister-in-law Myriam Roy of Roanoke, Va.; many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her Brown in-laws and their families. She is also survived by a very special friend, David A. Dickie of Belfast.
Jean was married to Andrew J. Gay from 1982 until his death in 2004. She was also predeceased by her parents; one sister, Anne Marie (Roy) Piacenti; one brother, Donald Roy; and grandson Alexander Dickie.
At Jean’s request, there will be no religious observance. Burial will be in the South Belfast Cemetery on Woods Road, at the convenience of the family.
