Joan Marie Cummings
FARMINGTON – Joan Marie Cummings, a loving wife and mother, died peacefully Feb. 20, 2026, at Franklin Hospital in Farmington, Maine.
Joan was born May 13, 1934, the daughter of Waldo and Doris Daggett Brooks of Forest City, Maine, a small village on East Grand Lake and the border with New Brunswick, Canada. The Brooks family moved to Bath in 1943 and Joan graduated from Morse High School in 1952. While living in Bath, Joan fell in love with and married William Edward Cummings on Sept. 17, 1955, at the Winter Street Church in Bath. A son, William Edward Cummings Jr, was born in Bath on Sept. 11, 1961.
She worked at the Bath Treasurer’s office at City Hall from 1952 to 1962 and later worked at Bath Junior High School and Hyde School. Joan and Bill Cummings retired in 1986 and moved to their lakeside home on Cupsuptic Lake in the Rangeley region, which they had begun building in 1970. Joan kept busy after retirement, working at Christmas Classics in Rangeley and the Gallery in nearby Oquossoc. She was a Member of the Rangeley Congregational Church, the local snowmobile club and other groups.
Joan and her husband left the Rangeley area in 2001 and moved to Belgrade and then Farmingdale. She enjoyed her husband’s 1921 and 1927 Model T. Fords, often traveling with groups for rides in various parts of the state and belonged to a club dedicated to antique cars. Joan more recently had been living at the Pearce House in Farmington.
She is survived by her son, William E. Cummings Jr.; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Towne of Andover, Caroline Kennard of Rumford, and Eleanor McKirnan of Santa Ana, Calif.; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, in February 2020.
The family plans to bury Joan alongside her husband at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rangeley during a private graveside service among friends and family.
