Remijo Wani scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds and Saint Joseph’s College won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament for the second straight season with a 92-58 over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Sunday in Standish.

The top-seeded Monks improved to 20-8 with their 16th straight win and earned the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. The field will be announced at 1 p.m. Monday. The second-seeded Blue Jays fell to 20-8 and will need an at-large bid to play in the tournament.

Saint Joseph’s started fast, jumping out to a 45-30 lead at the half thanks to 11 points and five rebounds from Wani Donato. Wani heated up in the second half, scoring 20 points and grabbing five rebounds as the Monks pulled away.

John Paul Frazier added 20 points, while Donato finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Tong Maiwen chipped in 10 points and eight boards, while Davis Mann had 10 points and six rebounds for the Monks.

Roel Figueroa led the University of Saint Joseph with 18 points. Lence Altenor added 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Monks earned their second win over Saint Joseph this season. They snapped the Blue Jays’ 13-game winning streak with an 84-61 win on Feb. 21 to secure the No. 1 seed in the GNAC tournament.
