It’s only appropriate that the season concludes with a brand new No. 1 in the Varsity Maine boys basketball poll. The top team was different than the previous poll every time but once. Camden Hills, Sanford, South Portland and Windham each spent time atop the rankings this winter, but it is Portland sitting in No. 1 position in the final poll of 2025-26.

Though the Bulldogs didn’t spend many weeks in the rankings, they took down South Portland and Sanford in the Class A South tournament and then defeated last week’s No. 1 Camden Hills in the Class A championship game.

Class B champion Gardiner finishes third after spending most of the season in the lower half or just outside of the rankings. Fort Kent is ranked ninth, its first time in the poll, after an impressive Class C championship victory over Maranacook.

The final Varsity Maine boys basketball poll of 2025-26 features the top 10 teams as voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
