Billy Kobin’s Feb. 26 article, “Maine could soon add speed cameras to I-95 construction zones,” has some Mainers worried about their privacy. While personal privacy is important, it can be protected; however, of greater importance is the safety of citizens and transportation workers.
Further, using electronic surveillance for all traffic offenses could diminish, if not eradicate, the well-documented discrepancies among the types of people who tend to receive traffic violations. Using technology to identify all traffic offenses would diminish cronyism and nepotism, allowing our state and municipal employees to work on actual crimes.
