Gretchen Dann’s goal 9 minutes, 35 seconds into the first period was all second-seeded Amherst needed as the Mammoths edged No. 4 Colby, 1-0, in the NESCAC women’s hockey championship game Sunday in Middlebury, Vermont.
Bea Flynn and Ayla Abban assisted on Dann’s goal. Amherst goalie Natalie Stott made 39 saves, 16 in the third period.
Colby (18-7-1) was coming off a 2-1 triple-overtime win over top-seeded Middlebury in Saturday’s semifinal. Amherst (19-2-6) defeated Colby for the first time this season after going 0-1-1 during the regular season.
Colby goalie Ally Martiniello made 31 saves.
