Norman Joseph Ouellette

TOMHEGAN TOWNSHIP – Norman Joseph Ouellette, 93, passed away on March 8, 2026. He was born on May 14, 1932, a son of G. Alexis and Lucy (Godbout) Ouellette.

Norman grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1950. He then enlisted in the Army and proudly served during the Korean war. Following his honorable discharge, Norman worked in construction for many years. In 1969 he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. Norman served as a letter carrier for 32 years and retired in 1991.

In the mid 1960’s he built a camp on Moosehead Lake where he would later live out his retirement. A true Mainer, Norman enjoyed the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, birdwatching or just sitting on the porch while looking out at the lake, Norm was happiest passing the time in nature.

Although Norman never had children of his own, he had a special bond with his niece and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Norman always welcomed the younger generations of the family up to camp.

Norman will be remembered for his Yankee ingenuity, independence, love of nature, and his appreciation for friends and neighbors in the community.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Robert Ouellette and Gerald Vincent Ouellette.

Norman is survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Ouellette; nephews: Richard Ouellette and his wife Sue, Thomas Ouellette and his wife Denise; niece, Jean Willey and her husband Brian; great-nieces and nephews, Vanessa Ouellette and her husband Xiao Lee, Sarah Kalagher and her husband John, Alexis Ouellette and Andrew Ouellette; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 11 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will take place in the spring at Holy Family Cemetery.
