Hayden Gray paced a balanced offense with 18 points and eight assists, leading the Maine Celtics to a 96-91 win over the Grand Rapids Gold in an NBA G League game Friday night at the Portland Expo.

The Celtics survived a furious fourth-quarter comeback bid by the Gold, who twice got as close as four points after trailing by 20 early in the fourth. DaRon Holmes II scored 36 points for Grand Rapids.

Gray was complemented by Keon Johnson, who scored 17 points off the bench, and Jalen Bridges and John Tonje, who each finished with 16 points.

The Celtics began the day one game out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Maine (15-16) has five games remaining.
