Earle “Buzzy” Bryant Pride

WAYNE – Earle “Buzzy” Bryant Pride, 85, passed away on March 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side.

He was the son of Earle Winslow Pride and Doris Bickford Pride. He was born in Bath, Nov. 5, 1940. At the age of 7, he moved with his family to Yarmouth. He loved Yarmouth and he lived there and raised his family until six years ago when he moved to Wayne, to be near his children.

He attended Yarmouth schools graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in 1959, where he excelled in sports and one year earned five letters, one for each sport he participated in. He went on to the University of Maine in Orono and was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964.

Growing up in Yarmouth instilled a lifelong love of the ocean for both he and his wife, so after graduating, he only applied for teaching positions near, or on the ocean. He found the perfect spot and he moved his family to Rockport, Mass., where he taught biology and oceanography at Gloucester High School in Gloucester, Mass. He also enjoyed coaching girls basketball while he was teaching there.

After five years of teaching, he and his family decided to move back to Maine to be close to grandparents and extended family. He took a teaching position at Deering High School in Portland, where he taught biology and also coached girls basketball. Once again settling his family in Yarmouth.

After teaching for 20 years, he decided to leave teaching and pursue a career in insurance sales. He, along with two partners, started a company known as Pride, Tansen and Ralph, in Portland. After the death of one partner, he relocated to Falmouth and started his own business known as Pride Financial Services where he would work until his retirement in his mid-70s.

Never one to turn down a challenge, his family enjoyed a camp on Sebago Lake that he built himself. He started out one morning with a shovel, a pile of sand, cement bags, water, and sono tubes. Nothing could stop him from reaching his goals. He also built an A-frame at Snow Valley at Sugarloaf Mountain, where his family enjoyed seasons passes and many skiing weekends and vacations. He enjoyed many hours riding his dirt bike with friends in Yarmouth in an ash pit. He would come home covered with black ash.

He became an avid boater having both sailboats and power boats. He and his family spent many years cruising Casco Bay, and beyond. Weekends and vacations were spent camping on the islands in Casco Bay with family and friends. His sailing adventures also included several trips to the United States, Virgin Islands and through the British Virgin Islands, where he and his wife went bareboat sailing.

Later in life, he became an avid golfer. He played locally at Valhalla in Cumberland, and was a founding member at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth where he played for many years and served on the board.

He also enjoyed watching a variety of sports on television, specifically golf and football. He was a loyal Patriots and Giants fan. He was also very interested in politics and current events.

He and his wife were snowbirds for 25 years, wintering in Sarasota, Fla. He was a member of The Palm Aire Golf Club during all of those years. He was very happy hopping into his golf cart and taking the two-minute ride to the clubhouse.

He loved organizing an annual tournament of Maine and Florida friends. The Maine players flew down and looked forward to this annual event. It was a lot of work, but he loved it.

After moving to Wayne in 2020 to be close to his children, he loved getting on his tractor and making roads through the woods on his land. He also enjoyed a daily ride, sometimes two, in his UTV with his beloved dog, Gizmo.

He loved life and people, and he lived life to its fullest. He was very quick witted and always ready to make people laugh. His legacy lives on in all he touched. He will be missed.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Thomas Leipold in 2014; his parents; and his brother, John Pride.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Judith Grover Pride; his children, Kevin Bryant Pride of Wales, Khristine Scott (John) of Winthrop; nine grandchildren, Krista Rosen (Mark), children Sofie and Nate, of York; Erik Thomas (Stacia) children Braygan and Leighelle of Cumberland; Allison Giusti (Dave) children Theo and Henry of North Reading, Mass; Amy Nicholson and children Logan and Harper of Middletown Del.; Matt Leipold (Krystal) and children Addison Grace and Brielle of Elkton, Md.; Katie Bagley (Nick) of Scarborough; Nicole Conant (Ryan) and child Rowan of Cumberland; Jessica Scott of Westbrook, and Nathan Scott of Portland; a brother, Craig Pride (Sue) of South Casco; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

A celebration of Life will be held May 23 at 11 a.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, followed by a reception at The Woodlands Club, 39 Woods Rd., Falmouth, for one last toast.
